Motorcycles of 100 cc and under to be subject to Motor Vehicle Tax: How much will be paid?
The Law Proposal on Amendments to the Law on Certain Regulations Regarding the Defense Industry and Other Laws has been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The proposal includes motorcycles of 100 cc and under in the tax bracket. The amount of Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) to be collected from motorcycles under 50 cc and 100 cc has become a subject of curiosity.

According to the statement by AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler, the resources included in the proposal feature motorcycles with an engine capacity under 100 cc, which have been exempt from Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) until now.
According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government; a special driver's license support is also offered for motorcycles in this class. In the under-100 cc motorcycle group, which is permitted to be used with a standard car driver's license, a sales boom has been experienced, especially in provinces with heavy urban traffic, and it stands out as a class frequently preferred in the courier sector due to the tax exemption.
THE LOWEST RATE FOR MOTORCYCLISTS IS 625 TL
In his statement on the subject, AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler pointed to the current lowest tax bracket, stating: "We are making a different arrangement in the Motor Vehicle Tax, from which we contribute to the fund. We are including motorcycles with an engine cylinder volume under 100 cubic centimeters, which are currently not taxed, and motorcycles with an engine power of 6 kilowatts and under, within the scope of the motor vehicle tax, and we are taxing them at the lowest rate of the tariff."
According to the 2024 MTV table, the lowest rate for newly purchased motorcycles is 625 TL.
According to data from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MOTED), total sales in the 100 cc and under motorcycle class were 123 thousand 500 units in 2022. Sales, which reached a total of 231 thousand 215 units in 2023, reached a record level of 247 thousand 382 units in the first 7 months of 2024. According to these figures, the 3-year total is 602,097 units. The cost of the tax exemption applied to motorcycles sold in 2024 alone to the national economy is 154 million 613 thousand 750 TL.
