New charging tariff regulation on the way for electric vehicles

Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) President Mustafa Yılmaz announced that a new charging tariff system for electric vehicles will be implemented. This new system will allow users to optimize their charging costs based on location and time.

Yılmaz stated that the new regulation is grouped under two main headings: location-based tariffs and time-based tariffs. Prices will increase during peak hours when electricity consumption is high, particularly in the evenings, while more affordable tariffs will be offered during nighttime hours. Similarly, while prices will be higher in busy areas such as shopping malls, users will be able to charge at lower costs in less busy areas.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ACCESSIBILITY

Yılmaz announced that they are planning various regulations to increase the accessibility of charging stations and improve the user experience. Stating that they are working on POS device integration for charging units, Yılmaz indicated that card or contactless payment options will also be offered.

Emphasizing that all charging network operators across Turkey are required to provide service to every brand of electric vehicle, Yılmaz noted that this will allow users to receive service from any charging operator.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE COUNT AND CHARGING STATISTICS

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the number of electric cars in Turkey reached 332 thousand 10 as of October. According to EMRA projections, this figure is expected to exceed 4 million 214 thousand by 2035. In October, 2 million 328 thousand 190 charging transactions were carried out across Turkey, and a total of 47 thousand 429 MWh of electricity was consumed. While Istanbul recorded the highest consumption with 14 thousand 438 MWh, Togg's charging network, Trugo, achieved the highest electricity consumption among brands with 11 thousand 292 MWh. The total number of charging points in Turkey has reached 36 thousand 984.
