Borsa Istanbul has announced that the "up-tick" rule will be applied to short selling transactions today.

Borsa Istanbul published its decision regarding market operations on the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).

The statement noted that, in accordance with the decision taken by the Capital Markets Board (SPK) on December 5, 2024, short selling is permitted for stocks included in the BIST 50 index, and stated: "It has been decided that the up-tick rule will be applied to short selling transactions for these stocks for one day during the session on February 24, 2025."

Accordingly, the statement explained that for stocks where short selling is permitted, short selling transactions can be executed at a price higher than the last realized transaction price of the capital market instrument subject to short selling; however, if the last realized price of the capital market instrument subject to short selling is higher than the previous price, the short selling transaction may also be executed at the last realized price level.

The statement emphasized that since sales made without ownership during the day and closed with purchases made on the same day are also considered within the scope of short selling, it is important for investors and investment institutions to exercise the necessary care and attention to ensure that orders for such sales are transmitted by marking the short selling option.
