It has been reported that a new era will begin at bank ATMs in Turkey following the holiday, and that 10 and 20 TL banknotes will no longer be available at ATMs. Significant changes are taking place in the banking sector due to the impact of high inflation rates.
According to the report in Ekonomim, a restructuring has been implemented regarding the denominations of banknotes to be withdrawn from ATMs. According to statements by Prof. Dr. Şenol Babuşçu, former deputy general manager of Ziraat Bank, the fact that banks have started to prefer 200 TL banknotes in ATM slots stands out as an indicator of this change.
It was stated that a large portion of the new banknotes recently printed by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) are in the 200 TL denomination, and this situation has affected the variety of banknotes in ATMs.
Due to rising living costs and high inflation, it was stated that the use of 200 TL banknotes has increased, and for this reason, banks have decided not to keep 10 and 20 TL banknotes in ATMs.
It was announced that this new practice will be implemented in ATMs across Turkey after the holiday. The fact that citizens will now be able to withdraw 50, 100, and 200 TL banknotes instead of 10 and 20 TL from ATMs is considered a sign of a new era, especially for those who need cash in small amounts.
