Following developments in energy markets, there has been a new increase in fuel prices. The rise in Brent crude oil prices due to the war in Iran has also been reflected in pump prices in Turkey. The amount of the hike to be applied to fuel products has been clarified.

According to the regulation, starting from Thursday, March 5, a price increase of 3 lira and 11 kuruş will be applied to diesel, and 92 kuruş to gasoline.

The decision for the increase came immediately after the Eşel Mobil System was reactivated to limit the impact of fuel price hikes on consumers.

EŞEL MOBİL PUBLISHED IN THE OFFICIAL GAZETTE

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has reactivated the previously implemented Eşel Mobil System to reduce the impact of fuel price increases on citizens.

With the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette, the system has come back into effect. Under this practice, the state will cover a portion of the fuel price increases by waiving tax revenue.

Following the publication of the decision, it was also announced that new price hikes would be applied to fuel products.

MASSIVE HIKES HAD BEEN CANCELLED PREVIOUSLY

It was noted that much higher increases in fuel prices had been on the agenda previously. It had been stated that a planned hike of 12 lira and 45 kuruş for diesel and 3 lira and 68 kuruş for gasoline had been cancelled.

It was indicated that expectations regarding the potential reactivation of the Eşel Mobil System were influential in the postponement of those price hikes.

It was stated that the rise in oil prices gained momentum particularly due to the war and that this was expected to be reflected in fuel prices in Turkey.

HOW THE EŞEL MOBİL SYSTEM WILL OPERATE

According to the regulation published in the Official Gazette, the practice came into effect based on the date of March 2, 2026.

Under the new system, 75 percent of the increase in fuel prices will be covered by reductions in the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) and the associated Value Added Tax (KDV).

According to this calculation, if there is a 10 TL hike in fuel prices, only 2.5 TL of this will be reflected to the consumer, while the remaining 7.5 TL will be deducted from the taxes collected by the state.

MAXIMUM DISCOUNT AMOUNTS DETERMINED

Within the scope of the practice, the maximum discount amounts for fuel products were also announced.

Accordingly, the maximum discount amounts per liter have been determined as follows:

Gasoline: 14.82 TL

Diesel: 13.90 TL

LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas): 11.38 TL per kilogram
