New year tax hikes on the way: New tax amounts have been determined
Major hikes are coming in 2025 for IMEI registration fees, international departure taxes, motor vehicle taxes (MTV), and passport fees. According to Tax Expert Dr. Ozan Bingöl, a 45 percent revaluation rate will lead to significant increases in many tax and fee items.

As of 2025, significant increases are expected in many tax items in Turkey. In particular, major hikes are projected for IMEI registration fees, international departure taxes, Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV), and passport fees.
According to projections presented by Tax Expert Dr. Ozan Bingöl, the 2024 revaluation rate is expected to be around 45 percent. This rate means significant hikes for many tax and fee items. The revaluation rate is determined based on inflation in Turkey, the Overseas Producer Price Index (YDO), and domestic cost increases. This increase, expected to be implemented in 2025, will affect a wide range of items, from IMEI registration fees to motor vehicle taxes, and from international departure taxes to passport and driver's license fees.
INCREASE IN IMEI REGISTRATION FEE
The IMEI registration fee applied to mobile phones brought by passengers from abroad has been increasing rapidly in recent years. This fee, which was set at 31,692 TL in 2024, will rise to 45,953 TL in 2025 with a 45 percent increase. The increase in the IMEI registration fee is calculated by taking the Overseas Producer Price Index (YDO) into account.
In addition to the IMEI registration fee, a serious increase is also expected in the Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV). The MTV for vehicles with a 1600 cc engine capacity, which was 5,851 TL in 2024, will rise to 8,484 TL in 2025 with a 45 percent increase. MTV will continue to be a significant cost item for motor vehicle owners.
INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURE TAX
The international departure tax, which was 500 TL in 2024, will become 720 TL as of 2025 with a 44 percent increase. This increase will create a significant additional cost for those who travel abroad frequently.
DRIVER'S LICENSE AND PASSPORT FEES
The Class B driver's license fee will also show a significant increase in 2025. This fee, which was 3,945.40 TL in 2024, will rise to 5,720.80 TL with a 45 percent increase. Besides this, there will also be a serious hike in passport fees in 2025.
