Now scammers will have to be careful too

The incident began when 35-year-old healthcare worker Fatih Çağlar was called by a person who introduced himself as a police commissioner.

According to the information received, the caller claimed that many people had been scammed through Çağlar's bank account and that he was investigating the matter.

Realizing immediately that he was being targeted for a scam, Çağlar, with the help of his friends, played an unforgettable game on the scammer. One of Çağlar's friends posed as his boss, another as a taxi driver, and a third as a bank official.

The phone traffic between Çağlar and the scammer lasted for about a week. Çağlar convinced the scammer that he was naive. He made the scammer believe that he had taken out a loan of 180,000 TL from the bank to hand over to him. However, he told the scammer that he did not have the 200 TL needed to travel to the bank branch. Believing this, the scammer sent 200 TL to Çağlar. Instead of a 180,000 TL receipt, Çağlar and his friends sent the scammer a photo of themselves drinking coffee and sent a message saying, "We drank coffee with your money, please forgive us."

HE ASKED FOR FORGIVENESS

The angry scammer initially reacted with outrage, but later congratulated Çağlar and said he forgave the 200 TL he had sent.

Explaining the successful operation he carried out step by step, Çağlar stated that when the scammer realized he had been scammed, he asked for forgiveness, saying, "I told him to forgive me. He said he wouldn't. Then he congratulated me and asked, 'How did you manage this?' I told them, 'You are very amateur; you are trying to pull off scams before you even know the basics.' Then he congratulated me and forgave the 200 TL. He blocked me, and now we can't reach him when we call. I am thinking of donating this 200 liras to a charity. We paid for the coffees ourselves. If we had used that money, we would have fallen to their level," he said.

"NOW SCAMMERS WILL HAVE TO BE CAREFUL TOO"

Warning people to be careful against scammers, Çağlar stated that scammers now need to be careful as well, saying: "They are still able to call our citizens and scam them by posing as police officers and prosecutors. It's the same trick for 20 years. People should no longer believe them. No prosecutor or judge calls people on their mobile phones to ask for money. You have to be careful. Now, scammers need to be careful too."
