Economist Özgür Demirtaş shared a post titled "An open note to the government" on his X account regarding the economic crisis and the government's austerity policy.

In his post, Demirtaş touched upon the error in the starting point of the austerity measures. Here is Demirtaş's post:

"Open Note to the Government:

Economic and social hardships stem from economic and social mistakes.

The government has made serious economic and social mistakes over the past 10 years. As a price for this, one of the greatest crises in the country's history is being experienced today.

It is the right decision for the government to turn back from these mistakes (at least one of them) and move toward austerity.

HOWEVER:

Starting austerity:

From retirees,

From farmers,

From fixed-income earners

is CLEARLY wrong.

Austerity should start:

From the Palace Economy,

From parliamentary privileges,

From bureaucratic expenditures,

From secret funds,

From the Palace Budget,

From aid provided to foreign countries,

in short: from expenditures made with the saying 'There is no austerity in prestige'."
