Hafize Gaye Erkan, whose steps have been closely followed since the day she was appointed as Central Bank Governor, had recently been in the spotlight due to reports involving her family.
Following her resignation, which she announced via a post on her social media account, the potential fluctuations in the economy began to be awaited with curiosity.
Feeling the need to make a post after accounts providing stock market commentary claimed that the situation would worsen significantly, economist Özgür Demirtaş shared his assessments with his readers, saying, 'stock market accounts in particular should read this,' following the departure of Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan.
Demirtaş shared his evaluations regarding the departure of Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan on his social media account. Demirtaş pointed out important points in his assessments.
Starting his article by saying, "Stock market accounts in particular need to read this," Demirtaş shared his views on the new Central Bank Governor appointment with the following words,
1) Stock market accounts thought that Hafize Hanım's removal from office would be bad. They stirred up a commotion. No, that is not how it will be.
2) The allegations regarding Hafize Hanım were a risk in terms of the institution's seriousness. Her removal from office is positive for the markets. This is not the same as the Naci Ağbal issue.
"PERSONALLY, I HAD WANTED CEVDET AKÇAY"
3) I personally had wanted Cevdet Akçay. Because I was afraid of another very bad choice. However, Fatih Karahan is also a very well-educated and qualified name.
4) What is important from now on is that the Central Bank continues its TIGHT monetary policy without slowing down.
5) After the Central Bank does its job, the task falls to Fiscal Policy. As the Minister of Economy has said, it is essential for the State and politicians to practice austerity.
6) For long-term recovery, structural reforms, which we have been talking about for years until we are blue in the face, are essential.
"THE STOCK MARKET WILL NOT BE AFFECTED"
7) I hope those who thought Hafize Hanım's departure would be bad for the Stock Market, and who panicked and attacked everyone because they lack education on the subject, are embarrassed.
The stock market will not be affected when Hafize Hanım leaves; it will go as it was going to go.
In other words, if it was going to rise, it will rise; if it was going to fall, it will fall. There was no need to stir up a commotion, but stock market accounts were going crazy 2-3 weeks ago.
8) I think and hope that the new Governor will continue the orthodox policy.
9) I hope that the bank will continue to benefit from Cevdet Akçay's expertise. This is very important in terms of attracting foreign investors.
Stating that he wishes the Fatih Karahan appointment to be positive for Turkey, Demirtaş said he hopes for structural reforms to be implemented and for Turkey to emerge from this economic crisis as soon as possible.
