Following the emergence of claims that the Ministry of Treasury and Finance would impose a 10 percent tax on tips, Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş stated on his X account: "I do not find this correct. People who receive tips are in the low-income group. The Ministry of Economy needs to stop looking for extra tax among low-income earners. If you have noticed: I say it is correct when I see a correct practice, and I say it is wrong when I see a wrong one."
WILL TIPS BE SUBJECT TO INCOME TAX?
The claim in question states that businesses will record and track tips received from customers, and with this regulation, tips will be subject to both income tax and VAT.
Additionally, it is among the claims that a condition will be introduced stating that tips must not exceed 10% of the total bill amount.
