Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş has issued a warning to investors.

In a post on his X account, Demirtaş underlined that currencies with high inflation should not be kept in a piggy bank.

Demirtaş included the following statements in his post:

"Dear friends, I would like to say a few things regarding your investment performance:

1) I had previously made videos and written tweets telling you that a currency with inflation should not be put in a piggy bank.

2) Likewise, the performance of your investments should not be viewed in terms of a currency that has inflation.

For example, if you have a TL-based investment in Borsa Istanbul, this investment should not be viewed in TL terms. Because the TL has significant inflation. It is more accurate to look at it in dollar terms.

However, after looking at it in dollar terms, one must also subtract the dollar's inflation from the performance.

In other words, something increasing 3-fold, 5-fold, 10-fold, or 20-fold in 20 years on a TL basis does not mean anything."
