Economist Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş issued a warning to stock market investors based on the results of a poll he conducted on his X account on December 23.
In the poll he published, Demirtaş asked: “You have an investment of 100 liras: First, it increased by 10 percent. Then it fell by 10 percent. Then it increased by another 10 percent. Then it fell by another 10 percent. How much money do you have right now?” he asked.
MORE THAN 500 THOUSAND PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE POLL
In the poll, which 507,118 people participated in, 5.1 percent said 101.1 liras, 14.9 percent said 100 liras, 68 percent said 98.01 liras, and 11.9 percent said 99.1 liras.

'IT MAKES YOU LOSE MONEY WHILE STANDING STILL'
Prof. Dr. Demirtaş shared a post today regarding the results of the poll, which 500,000 people participated in, stating that more than 30 percent of the participants answered the question incorrectly.
Demirtaş's post, in which he issued a stock market warning based on the result, was as follows:
“500 thousand people voted. More than 30 percent of people answered incorrectly. The correct answer is 98.01. In plain terms: a stock market that INCREASES and DECREASES at the same rate makes you lose money while standing still during that volatile period... Be careful.”
