The investment, which will have an annual capacity of 3 gigawatt-hours, will develop products for the US market. The lithium-ion battery cell production facility in Polatlı, which began operations in August, is expected to reach a capacity of 500 megawatt-hours by the end of this year. The company's goal is to make Ankara a hub for battery production.
The increasing demand for lithium-ion battery cells in the electric vehicle, electronics industry, and energy storage sectors is positively impacting investments in this direction.

“WE HAVE A 51 PERCENT LOCAL CONTENT RATE IN LITHIUM-ION BATTERY PRODUCTION”
Speaking as a guest on the Gündem Teknoloji program, Saim Hacıağaoğlu, Deputy General Manager of Pomega Energy Storage Technologies, stated regarding the energy storage and lithium-ion battery cell production facilities in Polatlı, Ankara, which began operations in August: “It has started mass production and will reach a capacity of 500 megawatt-hours by the end of the year and 3 gigawatt-hours by the end of next year. It is a very valuable production facility for the geography we are in. The use of lithium iron phosphate battery cells is increasing in electric vehicles, the energy sector, and the storage field. We have the capacity to serve in many areas, from residential storage systems to telecom solutions. With the cost of lithium falling below a certain level, its use is now emerging more in electric vehicles and the energy sector. Our local content rate in battery cells is over 51 percent, and we hold the status of a domestic product.”
“POMEGA ENERGY'S INVESTMENT IN THE US WILL BEGIN OPERATIONS AT THE END OF 2024”
On the other hand, sharing information about their investments in the US market, Pomega Deputy General Manager Hacıağaoğlu said, “The investment, which will have an annual capacity of 3 gigawatt-hours, will develop products for the US market. Our 279 million dollar lithium-ion battery cell and energy storage systems factory in the US state of South Carolina will become operational at the end of 2024.”
“OUR MOTTO IS TO MAKE ANKARA THE CAPITAL OF BATTERIES”
The company is also on the verge of a new investment to reduce dependence on China for raw materials: “We are at the beginning of an investment that will allow us to synthesize iron phosphate and lithium in our own facilities. We are shaping our investments to provide an integrated, end-to-end solution. It is a valuable investment for the development of the sub-industry. We aim to reduce dependence on China for raw material supply. Our starting motto is to make Ankara the capital of batteries. Thanks to both logistics and after-sales support, we can make Turkey the center of Europe.”
