Poverty deepens: Birleşik Kamu İş: Hunger threshold exceeds 20 thousand liras
As the deepening economic crisis continues to take its toll, the hunger threshold increased by 1,125 TL in the last month, exceeding the 20 thousand lira mark in March, according to the KAMU-AR research.

The R&D unit of the Birleşik Kamu İş Confederation, KAMU-AR, has announced the March 2024 results of its hunger-poverty threshold research, which calculates the expenditures a four-person family must make to consume a balanced and healthy diet, as well as to meet other needs without feeling deprived.
HUNGER THRESHOLD EXCEEDS 20 THOUSAND LIRAS
While the hunger threshold exceeded the 20 thousand lira mark for the first time in March, the poverty threshold also surpassed 57 thousand liras.
In March, the hunger threshold recorded an increase of 5.9 percent compared to the previous month, while the poverty threshold recorded an increase of 11 percent.
Over the last year, the hunger threshold increased by 9 thousand 207 liras, expenditures for non-food needs increased by 18 thousand 524 liras, and the poverty threshold increased by 27 thousand 731 liras.
The poverty threshold, which shows the total amount of food and non-food expenditures a four-person family must make to live without feeling deprived, rose by 4 thousand 905 liras in March to 57 thousand 280 liras.
The increase in the poverty threshold in the first three months of the year was 10 thousand 443 liras. The increase in the poverty threshold over the last year amounted to 27 thousand 731 liras.
NON-FOOD EXPENDITURES
According to the research, which also takes into account price changes in non-food requirements when determining the poverty threshold, the amount of expenditure required for a four-person family to meet their non-food needs "without feeling deprived" rose to 37 thousand 182 liras in March.
