Poverty line reaches 43,623 TL

According to the BİSAM hunger and poverty line report, the hunger threshold for a family of four in Turkey has reached 12,612 TL, while the poverty line has reached 43,623 TL.

The DİSK United Metal Workers' Union Class Research Center (BİSAM) has released its hunger and poverty line report for the September 2023 period.

According to calculations made by BİSAM, the monthly food expenditure required for a family of four to maintain a healthy and balanced diet was 12,612 TL for September 2023.

Based on calculations using household consumption expenditures over the hunger threshold, the poverty line was calculated at 43,623 lira.

The monthly cost of food required for an adult male to maintain a healthy and balanced diet was 3,451 TL. This value was 3,297 TL for an adult female, 3,549 TL for a teenager aged 15-18, and 2,314 TL for a child aged 4-6.

HIGHEST COST IN DAIRY PRODUCTS

In daily expenditures for September 2023, the milk and dairy products group constituted the highest cost group, requiring an expenditure of 138.16 lira.

The minimum expenditure required for the meat, chicken, and fish group was 81.94 lira. The daily expenditure required for vegetables and fruits reached 89.38 lira.

While the expenditure required for bread was 33.38 lira per day, solid and liquid fats required an expenditure of 23.99 lira. Expenditures of 8.97 lira for eggs and 11.53 lira for sugar, honey, jam, and molasses were required.
