A new tax regulation expected to directly affect fuel prices has come to the agenda. It has been stated that the Ministry of Treasury and Finance is preparing for a reduction in the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) levied on diesel as part of the fight against inflation.
According to information provided by journalist Olcay Aydilek, the work aimed at reducing the pressure on diesel prices at the pump has been completed. The regulation is expected to be published in the Official Gazette tonight and enter into force upon its publication.
The move comes after the expected fuel price hikes in the market were not implemented. The price increases, which were stated to be effective from the previous midnight, were withdrawn; the 2 lira increase in gasoline and the 6 lira 85 kurus increase in diesel were not reflected at the pump.
The possible reduction in SCT amounts will be decisive, especially in the course of diesel prices. The scope of the regulation and the extent to which it will be reflected in pump prices will become clear once the decision is published in the Official Gazette.
