Pro-government newspaper provides figure for minimum wage

The first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which was announced to be held yesterday (December 1), has been postponed to December 11.

The amount of the minimum wage for 2024, which concerns millions of workers, is being awaited with curiosity.

40-50 PERCENT HIKE EXPECTED

According to the report by Hazal Ateş from the pro-government Sabah newspaper, the minimum wage is expected to be between 15 thousand 962 and 17 thousand 103 liras in the new year with a hike of between 40 and 50 percent.

With the minimum wage having risen to a net 11 thousand 402 liras with a 34 percent hike in July, the net amount will rise to 17 thousand 103 liras with a 50 percent increase, if the civil servant salary increase is taken as a basis.

IT WILL BE 15 THOUSAND 962 TL ACCORDING TO 6-MONTH INFLATION

Since purchasing power parity is discussed in commission meetings, the increase in the inflation rate is also decisive in the hike to be made to the minimum wage. If the minimum wage is increased according to 6-month inflation, it will be a net 15 thousand 962 liras.

INCOME TAX EXPECTATION

The issue on which the worker and employer sides have a common view before the minimum wage negotiations is the adjustment of income tax. Both sides want the annual amount of the first 15 percent bracket of income tax, which is increased with revaluation, to be increased at a higher rate by the President using his authority, and thus for the amount of earnings of those receiving minimum wage and those receiving higher wages that remain outside of tax to be increased up to the minimum wage. Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay stated that an adjustment should be made to the income tax brackets.
