Production of two coins has officially ended

The General Directorate of the Mint and Stamp Printing House has implemented a comprehensive regulation in coin production in line with rising costs.

SMALLEST DENOMINATIONS REMOVED FROM THE LIST

The institution has decided to completely stop the production of 1 kuruş and 5 kuruş coins starting from the beginning of 2026. Having previously drawn attention with the de facto withdrawal of the 25 kuruş coin from circulation in 2024, the Mint has now removed the two lowest denominations from its production program with this step. In the new period, only 5 TL, 1 TL, 50 kuruş, and 10 kuruş coins will be minted.

JANUARY MINTING DATA

According to information reported by T24, 2 million 70 thousand 50 kuruş coins and 180 thousand 10 kuruş coins were produced in January. In the same month, 10 million 5 TL coins, which were minted specifically for the 100th anniversary of the Republic and are in circulation, were released into the market.

PRODUCTION COSTS EXCEEDED NOMINAL VALUE

The shared data shows that the production costs of coins have exceeded their nominal values. Accordingly, it is stated that while the production cost of a 1 TL coin has risen above 4 TL, the cost of a 50 kuruş coin is at the level of approximately 3 TL.
