Record increase in card payments: 970 billion TL!
The total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in January reached 970.1 billion TL, an increase of 118% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Interbank Card Center (BKM) has announced its data for January. According to these figures, the total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards rose to 970.1 billion TL, an increase of 118% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In January, 1.4 billion card transactions were carried out, resulting in payments exceeding 970 billion TL. Approximately two-thirds of in-store payments were made using contactless methods. Card payments made over the internet reached the 284 billion TL level.
Regarding the number of cards, as of January, the number of credit cards in Turkey was determined to be 119 million, the number of debit cards 190.5 million, and the number of prepaid cards 91.1 million. During this period, there was an increase of 17% in the number of credit cards, 11% in the number of debit cards, and 24% in the number of prepaid cards. The total number of cards reached 400.6 million, showing an increase of 16% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Looking at payment amounts, it was observed that the total payments made with credit cards were 810.9 billion TL, payments made with debit cards were 141.1 billion TL, and payments made with prepaid cards were 18.1 billion TL. The growth rate compared to the same period of the previous year was 126% for payments made with credit cards, 78% for payments made with debit cards, and 124% for payments made with prepaid cards.
According to the number of payment transactions, it was observed that there were 796.1 million transactions made with credit cards, 500.5 million transactions with debit cards, and 106.4 million transactions with prepaid cards. The growth rate compared to the same period of the previous year was recorded as 23% for transactions made with credit cards, 13% for transactions with debit cards, and 41% for transactions with prepaid cards.
