Regulation issued regarding temporarily imported land vehicles
Foreign-plated vehicles brought into the country temporarily by citizens retired abroad who stay in Turkey for long periods will be allowed to remain in Turkey for 4 consecutive years.

The "Communiqué on Amending the Customs General Communiqué on Temporarily Imported Land Vehicles," prepared by the Ministry of Trade, has been published in the Official Gazette.
Vehicles belonging to Turkish citizens, dual citizens, or Blue Card holders (including those retired abroad) who are residents outside the Turkish Customs Territory can remain in Turkey for up to 730 days. Previously, once this period expired, the person and the vehicle were required to be abroad for 185 days before a vehicle could be brought into the country again. This situation caused grievances for citizens retired abroad who stay in Turkey for long periods.
The communiqué aims to prevent these grievances. Accordingly, for vehicles belonging to citizens retired abroad who are residents outside the Turkish Customs Territory and retired foreigners who have obtained a residence permit in Turkey, an opportunity has been introduced to renew these periods upon the vehicle owner's application before the granted time expires, without the need for the person and the vehicle to exit the country.
Thus, foreign-plated vehicles brought into the country temporarily by citizens retired abroad will be able to remain in Turkey for 4 consecutive years. Furthermore, citizens retired abroad who take advantage of this right and take their vehicles abroad after keeping them in Turkey for 4 years will be able to bring a vehicle again for another 4-year period, provided they remain abroad with their vehicle for at least 185 days.
On the other hand, residents of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will also be able to benefit from the 1-month period granted to persons residing in the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association who wish to enter the country with their vehicles without meeting the necessary requirements.
Consequently, those arriving from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will also be able to benefit from this exceptional convenience, which was provided to ensure that citizens residing in the EU and the European Free Trade Association do not face difficulties at border gates if they need to come to Turkey with their vehicles in an emergency.
The communiqué entered into force effective from December 28, 2023.
