In 2024, which has been declared the year of the family, the government is introducing a comprehensive social security and retirement regulation for housewives. With the project to be offered under the Family Protection Shield Package, all Turkish citizen housewives aged 18 and over, regardless of whether they have been insured before, will be able to benefit from this right.

ONE-THIRD OF PREMIUMS FROM THE STATE

The most notable aspect of the regulation will be the state's premium support. Normally, a premium of 32% of the gross minimum wage is paid. This currently corresponds to 8,321 TL per month. Under the new regulation, 2,771 TL of this amount will be covered by the state. Women will earn the right to retirement by paying a premium of 5,548 TL each month.

THEY WILL BE INCLUDED UNDER BAĞ-KUR

Housewives who apply will be included in the system under voluntary insurance and will be evaluated under Bağ-Kur status. Women who make regular monthly payments will be able to earn the right to retirement at the end of a 15-year premium period. Payments can be made through online systems.

WHEN WILL RETIREMENT BE POSSIBLE?

The retirement age varies according to the woman's insurance entry date:

For those with insurance entry before September 8, 1999:

SSK: 3,600 days and 58 years of age

Bağ-Kur: 5,400 days and 56 years of age

For those after September 8, 1999:

SSK: 4,500 days and 58 years of age

Bağ-Kur: 5,400 days and 60 years of age

Housewives who meet these conditions will gain the opportunity for early retirement through the state-supported system.

WILL PREMIUMS INCREASE WITH RAISES?

Yes, premium payments will be updated annually at the same rate as the increase in the minimum wage. In other words, contribution shares will increase in parallel with annual income levels. However, state support will continue at a fixed rate.

A system similar to a wear-and-tear allowance is also planned within the scope of the regulation. Mothers with a high number of children, in particular, will gain an advantage in early retirement with this practice. Thus, the system aims to strengthen both social security and the family structure.
