Salaries remained the same, purchasing power melted away

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced that consumer inflation increased by 28.63 percent from the beginning of the year to the end of October. In contrast, the Inflation Research Group (ENAG) stated that inflation rose by 49.58 percent during the same period.

This situation shows that the real purchasing power of the minimum wage, which was 22 thousand 104 liras at the beginning of the year, has fallen to 17 thousand 184 liras as of November according to TÜİK data. According to ENAG's calculations, the real purchasing power of the minimum wage has declined to 14 thousand 777 liras.

LOSSES IN RETIREE AND CIVIL SERVANT SALARIES

According to the report by Sözcü, the lowest pension, which was increased to 16 thousand 881 liras with the raise in July, fell to 15 thousand 312 liras according to TÜİK inflation, and to 14 thousand 638 liras according to ENAG inflation. The purchasing power of a pension that was 18 thousand 413 liras in July fell to 16 thousand 701 liras with TÜİK inflation, while the lowest civil servant pension dropped from 19 thousand 106 liras to 17 thousand 330 liras.

Teacher salaries had risen to 54 thousand 379 liras with the raise 4 months ago, but fell to 49 thousand 323 liras according to TÜİK inflation. Engineer salaries declined from 68 thousand 508 liras to 62 thousand 139 liras. The lowest civil servant salary fell to 45 thousand 695 liras with TÜİK inflation and to 43 thousand 794 liras with ENAG inflation.
