AFTER TAXI DRIVERS, SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS ALSO WANT A RAISE
Following the demand by taxi drivers for a raise of at least 65 percent, school bus drivers have also requested a 60 percent raise for 2024.
"DRIVERS' SALARIES INCREASED BY 50 PERCENT"
According to the report on NTV, bus drivers, who requested a raise due to the increase in itemized expenses, stated, "Drivers' salaries have increased by 50 percent, employees' salaries have increased, and fuel, motor vehicle tax (MTV), comprehensive insurance, traffic insurance, and all the taxes we pay to the state have increased by 58 percent. We need to subsidize this."
THE LOWEST SERVICE FEE WILL BE 2 THOUSAND 808 TL
If the rate requested by the bus drivers is accepted, the lowest service fee will rise from 1 thousand 300 TL to 2 thousand 80 TL. When the 35 percent attendant fee for kindergarten, primary, and middle school is added to this figure, the monthly cost of service fees for parents will rise to 2 thousand 808 TL.
ALL EYES TURN TO THE UKOME MEETING ON JANUARY 8
The raise rates will be finalized after the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) Meeting on January 8, where requests and proposals for transportation fee hikes in Istanbul are expected to be discussed.
Bus drivers said, "As far as I understand, the municipality and UKOME have a proposal for an increase of around 30 percent. If it were 35 percent, service fees would be around 1 thousand 700 TL. If we break it down by day, it would be 50 TL-60 TL per day. Last year, it became effective starting in February. We insistently demand that this increase be reflected in the tariff starting from January."
THE LAST RAISE WAS MADE IN AUGUST
The last raise for service fees in Istanbul was made on August 8. Following the meeting, a decision was made to increase public transportation fees by 51.52 percent. The monthly fee for a 0-1 km school bus route had increased from 792 TL to 1 thousand 300 TL. Personnel service fees for vehicles with a 10-17 seat capacity had risen from 422.40 TL to 640.40 TL.
