Sharp market volatility ahead of US CPI data
While the US CPI data is not expected to provide a realization that would support a Fed interest rate cut, Citi has pointed to pricing that suggests sharp volatility could occur in the S&P 500 following the data release.

Ahead of the US CPI data, American stock markets weakened, led by technology companies, while Asia-Pacific markets are seeing movement within a narrow band.
The S&P 500 closed Monday down 0.1% and the Nasdaq 100 down 0.4%, while Meta Platforms saw a loss of approximately 4.5%. US stock futures are showing a positive outlook this morning.
Japanese stocks declined amid speculation that the Bank of Japan will shift to positive interest rates next week. The China CSI 300 is trading flat, while the Hong Kong Hang Seng recorded a rise of over 1%, led by technology companies.
Following the entry of a series of high-rated companies into the market for large-scale bond issuances, the US 10-year Treasury yield rose two basis points on Monday, reaching 4.0982%. The yield is flat in Asian trading this morning. Bitcoin is finding buyers above 72 thousand dollars, at a record level, ahead of the CPI data. The Bloomberg Dollar Index is at 1,229 points, down 0.2%.
