She had received her final salary from the CBRT: Hafize Gaye Erkan's new job has been revealed

The new role of former Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan has been clarified. Erkan, who resigned from the CBRT presidency in early 2024, is continuing her journey in global financial markets in Canada.

Following the expiration last month of her right to receive a salary, which she had been entitled to after requesting to be relieved of her duties at the CBRT, Erkan's new job has been revealed.

Bloomberg reporter Beril Akman announced in a post on her X account that Erkan has started her role as Head of Banking and Insurance Technology at the Canada-based Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited.

Information regarding the appointment was also included in the list of executives on the company's official website.

HAFİZE GAYE ERKAN'S JOURNEY

Hafize Gaye Erkan, who was appointed as Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey on June 9, 2023, was removed from office by a decision published in the Official Gazette on February 3, 2024. Following the change in leadership, Fatih Karahan was appointed to the Central Bank presidency.

A legal regulation that came into effect in 2021 allows senior executives removed from institutions such as the CBRT and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency to receive the same salary as their counterparts currently in office for two years.

CONTINUED TO RECEIVE SALARY FOR 2 YEARS

In this context, Erkan, who was not appointed to a new position after leaving her post, continued to receive the salary paid to Central Bank governors for approximately two years. It is stated that the payment process in question ended as of this month.

As of 2026, it is stated that the monthly salary of the Central Bank governor is over 750 thousand liras.
