Simit prices hiked, ministry launches inspections

The Ministry of Trade has placed practices regarding simit sales in Istanbul that violate current price tariffs under scrutiny. Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gürcan announced on his social media account that inspections are ongoing in the field.
Gürcan stated that inspections are continuing without interruption to protect the economic interests of citizens, prevent unfair and exorbitant pricing practices, and ensure fair competition conditions in the markets.
Reporting that businesses are being examined to see if they are acting in accordance with current tariffs following the increase in simit prices in Istanbul, Gürcan stated that administrative sanctions will be applied to businesses where violations are detected within the scope of relevant legislation.
Gürcan emphasized that no tolerance will be shown for practices that cause grievances for consumers, negatively affect access to basic consumer products, and disrupt the healthy functioning of the market.
