Statement from Mehmet Şimşek regarding rent increases
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced that housing supply will be increased to curb rent price hikes, new social housing projects will be developed to compensate for the loss of housing stock caused by the earthquake, and access to housing for low-income citizens will be improved.

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek responded to a written parliamentary question from CHP Artvin Deputy Uğur Bayraktutan regarding rent increases.
Stating that the "actual rent" index, which was 475.07 in November 2018, reached a value of 1888.02 in November 2023, Şimşek reported that the increase rate for the 2018-2023 period was 297.42 percent.
Şimşek noted that the monthly rent increase rate, which was 9.52 percent in September 2023, declined to 7.91 percent in October, 5.97 percent in November, and 4.48 percent in December, and stated the following:
"In the medium term, to combat inflation and curb rent price hikes, housing supply will be increased, new social housing projects will be developed to compensate for the loss of housing stock caused by the earthquake, and access to housing for low-income citizens will be improved."
