Due to the economic crisis, exorbitant increases in rents are exacerbating the housing crisis in Turkey with each passing day.
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek responded to a parliamentary question regarding rent increases. Minister Şimşek stated, "As a result of the economic programs being implemented, a slowdown in the rate of increase for rent and housing sales prices has been observed recently."
In his response to the parliamentary question, Minister Şimşek expressed that social housing projects aimed at low-income individuals will be developed. In his response, Şimşek noted the following:
"In the medium term, new social housing projects will be developed to curb rent increases and compensate for the losses in housing stock caused by the earthquake, and efforts will be made to increase low-income citizens' access to housing."
