Stock market closes the day with a decline

The BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul ended the day down 2.08 percent at 8,907.65 points.

The BIST 100 index decreased by 189.50 points compared to the previous close, with a total trading volume of 107.4 billion lira.

The banking index lost 3.29 percent, while the holding index fell by 0.94 percent.

Among the sector indices, the forestry, paper, and printing sector gained the most with 3.90 percent, while the financial leasing and factoring sector saw the largest decline at 4 percent.

Analysts stated that the employment data to be released in the US this week could provide clues regarding the steps the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will take in the coming period, noting that the statements to be made by Fed Chair Jerome Powell in Congress are also in the focus of investors.

Analysts, who pointed out that the real effective exchange rate will be in focus domestically tomorrow, while the services sector and composite Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) to be released globally, the Eurozone producer price index, and factory orders data in the US will be prominent abroad, noted that from a technical perspective, 8,900 and 8,800 points will be followed as support levels for the BIST 100 index, while 9,100 and 9,200 levels will be monitored as resistance.
