Stock market hits record high in the first half of the day (April 30, 2024)

The BIST 100 index, which saw an all-time high of 10,132.88 points in the first half of the day, stood at 10,109.82 as of 1:00 PM, gaining 27.05 points and 0.27 percent compared to the previous close. The total trading volume reached 48.4 billion liras.

The banking index gained 0.92 percent, while the holding index rose by 0.26 percent.

Among sector indices, the metal goods and machinery sector was the top gainer with 1.27 percent, while the sports sector was the biggest loser with 4.19 percent.

Analysts stated that global equity markets are following a mixed trend as corporate earnings, which have largely come in better than expected during the busy earnings season, offset growing concerns that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will keep interest rates at high levels for a longer period.

Noting that the US housing price index and the New York Fed consumer confidence index data will be monitored in the afternoon, analysts recorded that from a technical perspective, the 10,200 and 10,300 levels are resistance points for the BIST 100 index, while 10,000 and 9,900 points serve as support.
