Stock market opens the day with a record (February 13, 2024)

The BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul opened the day at a record level of 9,217.42 points, rising by 0.47 percent.

At the opening, the BIST 100 index gained 42.88 points and 0.47 percent compared to the previous close, reaching 9,217.42 points.

The banking index rose by 0.38 percent and the holding index by 0.36 percent. Among sector indices, securities investment trusts were the top gainers with 3.39 percent, while mining was the biggest loser with 0.13 percent.

Yesterday, the BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul followed a bullish trend, closing the day at a record level of 9,174.58 points with a gain of 1.42 percent, while also reaching a new all-time high of 9,175.82 points.

Analysts stated that global equity markets are following a mixed trend as stock and sector-based volatility increases during the busy earnings season, noting that all eyes are now on the intense data agenda, primarily the inflation data to be released in the US today.

Domestically, balance of payments data is in the focus of investors, with economists participating in the AA Finance Balance of Payments Expectation Survey estimating that the current account deficit was 3 billion 83 million dollars in December 2023.

Meanwhile, Turkey's 5-year credit default swap (CDS), which continues its downward trend, stands at 299 basis points at the start of the new day.

Analysts, who stated that retail sales and foreign trade indices will be monitored domestically today, and ZEW expectation indices in Germany and the Eurozone as well as inflation data in the US will be followed abroad, noted that technically, the 9,300 and 9,450 levels are resistance, while 9,100 and 9,000 points are support for the BIST 100 index.
