Strict inspections continue ahead of Ramadan

With only a few days left until the month of Ramadan, authorities have taken action to reduce the pressure of rising food prices on citizens. The Ministry of Trade announced that it has met with key representatives of the food sector and reached an agreement on ensuring price stability for basic products and increasing campaigns and discounts.

During this process, a series of meetings were held with the participation of local and chain market managers, wholesale companies, sector representatives, and professional chambers. As a result of the meetings, it was decided to protect prices in favor of citizens, especially for basic food and essential products, to ensure continuity, and to prevent potential opportunism in the markets. In addition, new measures have begun to be taken to ensure that those in need can access basic products at more affordable costs.

In the statement made by the Ministry of Trade, it was reported that thanks to the cooperation carried out with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry throughout Ramadan, inspections in the markets will be increased, and these inspections aim to both prevent unfair price increases and block hoarding and speculative attempts. The statement included the following: “The markets will be closely monitored, and inspections against unfair price increases, hoarding, and speculative attempts will be continued with determination.”

These efforts, initiated to ensure that citizens can access basic food products more easily and at more affordable prices during Ramadan, are expected to show results in the coming days. Authorities stated that they will continue inspections and sectoral collaborations without slowing down in order to both protect consumers' budgets and ensure the continuation of fair competition in the markets.
