Retirees are in a tight spot due to the 10,000 TL pension. Because they are experiencing financial difficulties, the AKP government is working on a support package for retirees. Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan announced the first part of the support package for retirees.

Some of the items announced by Minister Işıkhan were as follows:

Available dormitories within the KYK (Credit and Dormitories Institution) will be opened for free use by retirees for a one-month period during the summer months.

Facilities under the Ministry of Youth and Sports will be opened to all retirees free of charge.

Retirees will be able to benefit from public guesthouses, teacher's houses, social facilities, and lodges with a 15 percent discount.

A 10 percent discount has been provided on TCDD (Turkish State Railways) main line trains.

IS FOOD AID ON THE AGENDA?

According to the report by Sabah; the package, which is expected to include more critical regulations for retirees, contains the following support measures:

In addition to public transportation offered by municipalities, efforts are underway to allow retirees to benefit from other means of transportation at a discount or for free. At this point, privileges will be granted to retirees for plane and train tickets. The Ministry of Transport will step in to complete these efforts.

Food and basic needs aid

A shopping card will be prepared for retirees whose income level is below a certain amount, allowing them to meet their food and other basic needs. With the money to be loaded onto this card every month, the opportunity to shop at markets will be offered. The Ministry of Family and Social Services and municipalities will undertake this support.

Special tariff for mobile phone bills

At this point, the introduction of special discounted tariffs for retirees through protocols to be made with GSM operators will be on the agenda. Thus, retirees will benefit from telephone and internet services more advantageously.

Discounts on water bills on the agenda

Within this scope, many issues such as discounts on water bills, free or discounted public transportation, and privileged use of municipal facilities will be addressed through protocols to be made with local governments for retirees. Here, retirees will be able to benefit from all services offered by the municipality as privileged, either at a discount or for free.

Natural gas and electricity support

Work is also underway to provide discounts on natural gas and electricity bills for all retirees, especially those with low pensions. In this regard, measures to reduce these expenses for retirees may be implemented through a protocol to be made with the Ministry of Energy. The energy support applied per capita to households will also be expanded for retirees.

Rent assistance may be coming

Rent assistance for retirees, especially in metropolitan cities, has also come to the agenda. Starting with low-income retirees, a certain amount of rent support will be provided to retirees. Local governments will also step in on this issue. This support amount will be higher in metropolitan cities. Thus, a portion of the retirees' rent will be covered.

Low-interest loans

Privileges will be granted to retirees in banking services through protocols to be made with banks. Private banks, especially public banks, will also be involved. Issues such as access to credit, low-interest opportunities, free banking services, and increasing promotion amounts will be in effect.

Special card for retirees

There is also a special card in the model prepared for retirees. In this application called the "Retiree Card" (Emeklikart), all support to be provided for retirees will be paid through this card. Retirees will be able to spend the cash support to be loaded onto the card wherever they wish. The Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Family are carrying out the preparations for the card together. The management of the card will be under the Social Security Institution. The discounts to be made will also be applied through this card.
