The tension between Israel and Iran in the Middle East has led to unease in global markets. Israel's airstrikes against Iran have heightened regional tensions, overshadowing the limited optimism stemming from US-China talks. The increase in geopolitical risks has raised investor risk perception and negatively affected the markets.
On Borsa Istanbul, the BIST 100 index opened the day with a 3.71 percent decline at 9,166.80 points. The index, which followed a sell-heavy trend the previous day, had closed the day with a 1.71 percent loss at 9,520.22 points.
At the opening, the banking index lost 4.77 percent, while the holding index lost 4.10 percent. While there were declines in all sectors, the largest loss was seen in the transportation sector with 5.95 percent.
DATA AND THE MIDDLE EAST ARE ON THE AGENDA
Analysts stated that they would be monitoring weekly money and bank statistics domestically, and Eurozone industrial production and the US University of Michigan consumer confidence index internationally throughout the day.
Experts emphasized that news from the Middle East will continue to remain the focus of investors, while stating that from a technical perspective, 9,100 and 9,000 points are support levels for the BIST 100 index, and 9,200 and 9,300 levels are resistance points.
