Textile giant closes its factory in Çorlu: 2,000 people left unemployed

Eren Holding Chairman of the Board Ahmet Eren announced that the textile factory operating on a large site in Çorlu has been closed. Emphasizing that the decision was not made easily, Eren stated, "We were forced to close our Çorlu factory. We waited 3-4 months to avoid closing it. It pains me deeply because you are terminating your workers' employment. How will they find work, where will they work? We are not the only ones closing factories; many factories have closed."

LAYOFFS REACH 2,000

As reported by Cumhuriyet, Eren stated that approximately 14,000 people are employed in their companies, which operate in the textile, garment, cement, retail, packaging, paper, energy, and logistics sectors.

Noting that brands such as Lacoste, Burberry, Gant, and Nautica are included in their retail portfolio, Eren drew attention to the contraction in the sector. "Currently, the textile industry is dying. Our retail sales are also falling. Unfortunately, the number of workers we have laid off has reached 2,000," he said.

The Eren family ranks 37th on Forbes' list of Turkey's 100 richest families.
