The 'at least' formula for farmers

Expectations remain high among farmers who were unable to benefit from the 5,000 lira bonus regulation for retirees. Büro-İş Union President Alay Hamzaçebi voiced the demands of farmers registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) who receive an annual fertilizer and diesel subsidy of 250 lira. Hamzaçebi stated, "At the very least, the 250 TL should be deducted from the 5,000 TL and the remaining amount should be paid."

A one-time bonus of 5,000 lira for retirees in honor of the Republic's 100th anniversary has been deposited into accounts. As of November 15, the Social Security Institution (SGK) had paid 61 billion TL to 12.2 million retirees.

However, farmers registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) were unable to benefit from this bonus because they were classified as working retirees; this situation, which affected nearly 1.6 million retired farmers, caused significant discontent.

It was suggested that President Erdoğan had intervened to resolve this issue, which created grievances for retired farmers. While no official statement has yet been made from Ankara, reactions continue to mount.

AT LEAST DEDUCT THE 250 TL AND PAY THE REST

Büro-İş Union President Alay Hamzaçebi stated in an interview with Cumhuriyet that it is heartbreaking that low-income retirees who receive a pension of 7,500 TL and cannot make ends meet were not paid the bonus.

Reminding that farmers registered in the ÇKS receive a symbolic annual diesel and fertilizer subsidy of 250 lira, he said, "There are hundreds of thousands of retirees registered in the ÇKS. These individuals have a demand that at least the 250 TL be deducted from the 5,000 TL and the remaining amount be paid to them."

Stating that the law and its implementation lead to injustice, Hamzaçebi expressed their demands as follows: "Small tradespeople, artisans, villagers, and farmers in the lowest income group, who are forced to scrape by, are in a difficult situation. Although it is not enough, 5,000 TL should be given to all retirees every month without discrimination."
