The Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) Retail Confidence Index has been released.
Accordingly, the index, which stood at -16.7 points in October of this year, recorded a decrease of 24.4 points compared to the same period last year and 22.9 points compared to the previous month, falling to its lowest level observed since August 2021.
The proportion of retailers stating that business conditions have worsened over the past three months rose from 7.1 percent to 58.2 percent. Similarly, the proportion of those expecting a deterioration in their business for the next three months increased from 8.7 percent to 49.3 percent.
Rising costs, increases in sales prices, a decline in purchasing power, and a contraction in demand stood out as the primary reasons for this increase.
Furthermore, market stagnation and difficulties in cash flow are also among the factors affecting negative expectations.
GREATEST DECLINE IN THE EASTERN BLACK SEA REGION
When examined on a regional basis, it was observed that retail confidence in the Eastern Black Sea region declined significantly.
Another point of note in the monthly change of the index was the 12.1-point change indicating that current stock levels are below normal.
While this situation points to the existence of some positive elements, the general picture shows that other factors negatively affecting the index maintain their weight.
When evaluated on a sub-sector basis, a more pronounced decline in retail confidence was observed in the "Furniture, lighting equipment, and household products" sector compared to other sectors.
