The starting figure for minimum wage negotiations has been revealed! Claims that 'the raise rate may increase due to the elections'

Millions of employees are eagerly awaiting the new minimum wage. While the minimum wage for 2024 is expected to be 15 thousand 700 liras without any negotiation based on current inflation calculations, it is claimed that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan may increase the raise rate for the minimum wage due to the local elections.

As high inflation, exchange rates, and the cost of living erode the Turkish Lira day by day, millions of employees have turned their eyes to the minimum wage raise to be implemented at the end of the year.

Detailed calculations have begun ahead of the negotiation talks for the new minimum wage that will be applied starting from the new year. November inflation will be the determining factor in the negotiation talks that will begin in December.

NEGOTIATIONS WILL START AT AT LEAST 15 THOUSAND 700 LIRAS

According to the news in Sözcü, inflation has reached 29.4 percent in the 4-month period since July. If November inflation is announced at around 3 percent, a similar figure will be estimated for December, bringing a figure of at least 37.3 percent for 6-month inflation to the agenda. This means that just to compensate for the loss based on inflation calculations alone, the minimum wage must be increased to at least 15 thousand 700 liras in the new year. Therefore, since inflation calculations will be taken into account at the table, minimum wage negotiations are expected to start at at least 15 thousand 700 liras.

IF ERDOĞAN KEEPS HIS PROMISE, THE MINIMUM RAISE SHOULD BE 40 PERCENT

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek had stated that future inflation forecasts, rather than realized inflation, should be taken into account when determining salary raises. However, raise negotiations are generally conducted based on past 6-month or annual inflation data. The Central Bank has predicted that inflation will fall to 36 percent by the end of next year.

However, even in the Central Bank's projections, the fact that inflation will rise to 75 percent by the end of May indicates that the annual average inflation will be much higher than 36 percent. AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on the other hand, contrary to Şimşek, had promised that they would not let employees be crushed by inflation. If Erdoğan keeps his promise, the minimum raise is expected to be around 40 percent.

AN ELECTION SURPRISE MAY BE COMING

On the other hand, it is stated that the raise rate could be increased by Erdoğan due to the local elections and that it would not be a surprise if it were set at around 50 percent, and in this direction, the figure could rise to 17 thousand 103 TL.
