While the BIST 100 index on Borsa Istanbul has shown a mixed performance in March over the last 10 years, it gained an average of 9.44 percent in the 4 months it recorded an increase.

When the performance of the BIST 100 index in March over the last 10 years is examined, the average for the 4 months in which an increase was observed was calculated at 9.44 percent, while the average for the 6 months in which there was a decline was 7.75 percent.
The BIST 100 index showed its best March performance of the last 10 years in 2022 with a gain of 14.8 percent, while it showed its worst performance in 2020 with a decline of 15.4 percent.
Looking at the main indices during the relevant periods, it was observed that the technology, services, and financial indices rose 4 times each, similar to the BIST 100 index, while the industrial index recorded an increase 5 times.
During these periods, the financial, industrial, services, and technology indices performed best in 2022, in line with the BIST 100 index.
In March 2022, while it was notable that the financial index and the services index outperformed the BIST 100 index with gains of 15.56 percent and 16.28 percent respectively, the industrial index rose by 12.32 percent and the technology index by 10.01 percent in the same period.
The main indices also performed their worst in 2020, showing similarities with the BIST 100 index, with the exception of the services index, while the services index recorded its lowest March performance in 2019 with a decrease of 11.94 percent.
In March 2020, it was noted that the financial index and the industrial index declined more than the BIST 100 index, with drops of 16.32 percent and 18.92 percent respectively; during this period, the technology index also lost 14.19 percent of its value.
CONSTRUCTION LOVES MARCH
When the months of March over the last 5 years are examined in detail, it was observed that the construction index performed better than the BIST 100 index every year.
On Borsa Istanbul, it stood out that 71 stocks performed stronger than the BIST 100 index in at least 4 of the last 5 years during the month of March.
Among the sector indices, it was observed that the public offering index with 10.5 percent, the trade index with 8.6 percent, the financial leasing and factoring index with 4 percent, and the informatics index with 2.4 percent provided higher average returns than the BIST 100 index in at least 4 of the last 5 years.
The construction index performed 7.7 percent better on average than the BIST 100 index in all 5 of the last 5 years.
Among the stocks that provided better returns than the BIST 100 index in March of every year over the last 5 years, the performance of Prizma Press stood out, followed by Info Yatirim, Ersu Meyve ve Gida, Pinar Et ve Un Sanayi, and Merko Gida.
When looking in detail at the stocks that performed better than the BIST 100 index in at least 4 of the last 5 years during the month of March, it was calculated that Dogus Gayrimenkul with 38 percent, Guler Yatirim Holding with 23.4 percent, Dagi Yatirim Holding with 22.9 percent, Prizma Press with 20.3 percent, and Formet Metal ve Cam Sanayi with 19.4 percent provided above-index returns to their investors.
