Tipping tax claims bring those videos to mind: Minister Şimşek had also asked for money for Meclis Taksi

Following claims that businesses will record tips received from customers and that a 10 percent "tipping tax" will be collected, a 2013 video of Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, who was a guest on the "Meclis Taksi" program broadcast on TRT Haber, has resurfaced.

Footage from 2013, in which Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek acted as a "taxi driver" on the TRT Haber program 'Meclis Taksi', has resurfaced on social media following claims of a tipping tax.

In the program, Minister Mehmet Şimşek took the driver's seat and transported passengers in Ankara; his first customers were an elderly couple traveling from Kızılay to Hacı Bayram Mosque.

To the couple who said, "They said you were taking us for free," Minister Şimşek replied, "Uncle, can there be a free taxi? Let's at least take the bus fare. Won't you even pay the bus fare?"

While those moments of Minister Şimşek teasing the elderly couple have become a hot topic on social media again, many citizens complained about the taxes the economic administration collects, especially from working citizens.

Hundreds of comments were made on the video.
