Tomato was the product with the highest price increase in Istanbul in April

While the tomato was the product with the highest retail price increase in Istanbul in April, the eggplant was determined to be the product with the sharpest price decline.

Price volatility across Istanbul drew attention in April. According to data released by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), price increases were observed in 250 of the 336 main products sold at retail in the city last month. During the same period, the prices of only 15 products declined, while there was no change in the remaining products.

In April, the tomato became the product with the highest price increase, rising by 50.54 percent compared to the previous month. The tomato was followed by other health products with a 29.87 percent increase, lighting with 25.14 percent, heating expenses with 25 percent, and skirts with 24.72 percent, respectively.

Price increases were recorded at 22.34 percent for women's t-shirts, 20.77 percent for dresses, 20.63 percent for men's shirts, 19.99 percent for women's shirts, 19.30 percent for carrots, and 18.87 percent for women's trousers. Additionally, pointed peppers increased by 16.87 percent, curly lettuce by 16.84 percent, Charleston peppers by 16.45 percent, and tunics by 15.60 percent.

On the other hand, the product with the sharpest price decline was the eggplant, at 63.20 percent. The eggplant was followed by cucumbers at 38.12 percent, zucchini at 32.59 percent, and strawberries at 27.15 percent. A decline of 20.35 percent was recorded in green beans and 11.05 percent in toys.

The remainder of the list showed price decreases of 5.80 percent for eggs, 5.29 percent for intercity bus tickets, 2.36 percent for parsley, 1 percent for men's jackets, 0.83 percent for cinema tickets, and 0.34 percent for tomato paste.
