Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek makes 'inflation' statement
Minister Mehmet Şimşek, who traveled to the US for G20 and World Bank meetings, stated that fiscal policy will play a stronger role in the fight against inflation, saying, “2025 will be a turning point in the fight against inflation.” He gave an evasive response to a question about the minimum wage, stating, “It would not be appropriate for me to comment.”

INFLATION IS STILL TOO HIGH TO BE ACCEPTABLE
Stating that next year will be a turning point in the fight against inflation, Şimşek said that fiscal policy will be more strongly involved in this process:
“Next year will be a turning point. Inflation is still too high to be acceptable. Therefore, our number one priority is to ensure price stability.
We aim to restore fiscal discipline and achieve a sustainable external balance by narrowing the current account deficit. Implementing structural reforms is also among our priority goals.”
IT WOULD NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR ME TO COMMENT ON THE MINIMUM WAGE
Giving evasive answers to a question about the minimum wage, Şimşek said, “The minimum wage is determined as a result of negotiations between unions, employers, and the government; it would not be appropriate for me to comment at this stage. I am sure that the unions, employers, and the government will be sensitive about maintaining competitiveness at a certain level. For this reason, it would not be right to pre-judge the process by talking about any specific figure.”
