TÜİK announces: Inflation calculation method is changing
TÜİK has announced that there will be changes to inflation calculations starting from January 2026.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced that, within the framework of harmonization with the European Union, changes will be made to inflation calculations starting from January 2026.
According to the statement, in line with European Commission decisions, the base year for consumer price inflation (CPI) will be updated to 2025=100, effective from January 2026, simultaneously with all European Union countries.
With this decision, the National Accounts Household Final Consumption Expenditures will be taken as the main source for CPI weights. Lower-level weights will continue to be determined through the Household Budget Survey.
In its announcement, TÜİK stated that the historical series based on the current 2003=100 base year will be restructured according to the new classification while maintaining the chain index structure, and therefore, there will be no change in headline inflation indicators. However, it was noted that changes due to classification differences may be observed in some sub-indices.
The institution stated that these harmonization efforts have been carried out in a planned manner over the last two years and announced that all details will be disclosed to the public with the January 2026 CPI news bulletin.
