TÜİK announces: Kocaeli ranks first in per capita income, Van last

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the "gross domestic product by province" data for 2022.

Accordingly, in 2022, Istanbul reached the highest GDP with 4 trillion 564 billion 280 million liras, accounting for 30.4 percent of the total output. It was followed by Ankara with 1 trillion 329 billion 810 million liras and an 8.9 percent share, and Izmir with 972 billion 238 million liras and a 6.5 percent share.

The top five provinces receiving the highest share of GDP accounted for 53.9 percent of the total output in 2022.

In the provincial GDP accounts, the bottom three provinces were Tunceli with 11 billion 288 million liras, Ardahan with 10 billion 539 million liras, and Bayburt with 8 billion 287 million liras.

KOCAELİ AT THE TOP, VAN AT THE BOTTOM

During the period in question, Kocaeli ranked first in GDP per capita with 302 thousand 772 liras. This province, which was also at the top the previous year, was followed by Istanbul with 287 thousand 524 liras and Tekirdağ with 253 thousand 501 liras.

In the provincial GDP per capita calculations, Şanlıurfa with 64 thousand 416 liras, Ağrı with 55 thousand 296 liras, and Van with 54 thousand 272 liras ranked in the bottom three.

GDP per capita was above the Turkey average for 14 provinces in 2022.

KONYA RANKS FIRST IN AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY, AND FISHING SECTOR

When the activities constituting the GDP are examined, Istanbul, which received the highest share of GDP at current prices in 2022, also ranked first in all activities except for the agriculture sector and other service activities.

Istanbul's share in the total of information and communication activities was 65.4 percent, its share in the total of financial and insurance activities was 59 percent, its share in the total of professional, administrative, and support service activities was 46.7 percent, its share in the total of the services sector was 41.5 percent, and its share in the total of the construction sector was 32.6 percent.

While Konya ranked first among 81 provinces in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector with a 6.2 percent share, Ankara ranked first in other service activities with a 43.4 percent share.

While Istanbul received a 41.5 percent share of the total services sector in 2022, the share of the services sector within the province's total GDP was 36.5 percent. Within Istanbul's total GDP, the industrial sector ranked second with a 19.3 percent share, and professional, administrative, and support service activities ranked third with a 7 percent share.

ANTALYA FIRST IN GROWTH

While the annual GDP increased by 5.5 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year according to the chained volume index, an increase above the Turkey average occurred in 26 provinces. The top three provinces showing the highest increase in 2022 compared to the previous year were Antalya with a 21.8 percent change rate, Kırşehir with 21.4 percent, and Kilis with 17 percent, respectively. The three provinces showing the highest decrease compared to the previous year were recorded as Artvin with 9.4 percent, Erzincan with 9.5 percent, and Karabük with 11 percent, respectively.

HIGHEST CONTRIBUTION FROM ISTANBUL

The province that contributed the most to the 5.5 percent increase in annual GDP compared to the previous year according to the chained volume index was Istanbul with 2.46 percent. Istanbul was followed by Antalya with 0.65 percent and Ankara with 0.55 percent.

Leading the provinces that made a negative contribution to annual GDP growth in 2022 were Osmaniye with 0.03 percent, Elazığ with 0.03 percent, and Hatay with 0.06 percent.
