TÜİK announces unemployment data for August

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has shared labor force statistics for the August 2025 period with the public. According to the released data, the unemployment rate in Turkey was recorded at 8.5 percent in August. This rate was announced as 8 percent in July, but was later revised to 8.1 percent.
In August, the number of unemployed persons increased by 168 thousand compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 44 thousand. The unemployment rate was determined to be 6.8 percent for men and 11.6 percent for women.
The number of employed persons increased by 208 thousand in August, rising to 32 million 829 thousand. While the employment rate rose to 49.4 percent, this rate was 66.6 percent for men and 32.6 percent for women.
The labor force participation rate also showed an increase in August. The labor force increased by 376 thousand compared to the previous month, reaching 35 million 873 thousand. The labor force participation rate was recorded at 54 percent; this rate was 71.5 percent for men and 36.9 percent for women.
INCREASE IN YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT
The unemployment rate for the youth population aged 15-24 increased by 0.8 percentage points compared to the previous month, rising to 16 percent. In this age group, the unemployment rate was estimated at 12.4 percent for men and 22.7 percent for women.
