The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has shared the Economic Confidence Index data for May 2025 with the public. According to the released data, the economic confidence index, which was 96.6 in April, rose to 96.7 in May with a limited increase of only 0.1 points. This increase was not enough to restore general optimism regarding the economy.

THE 100 THRESHOLD COULD NOT BE SURPASSED

The economic confidence index can take values between 0 and 200. Values above 100 indicate that the public is optimistic about the economic outlook, while values below 100 point to pessimistic expectations. According to the May data, the public's lack of confidence in the economy continues.

According to TÜİK data:

The consumer confidence index increased by 1.1 percent to 84.8.

The services sector confidence index rose by 0.9 percent to 110.5.

The retail trade sector confidence index increased by 0.6 percent, reaching 111.2.

The construction sector confidence index saw a notable increase of 3.9 percent, reaching 88.4.

However, the real sector (manufacturing industry) confidence index declined by 2.2 percent, falling to 98.6.

THE LOWEST LEVEL WAS IN APRIL

The 96.6 value announced in April was the lowest level in the last 8 months and represented the sharpest decline in the index in 20 months. Despite the limited rise in May, the confidence index continues to remain below the psychological threshold of 100 points.
