TÜİK data: Chicken meat production increased in April, while egg and milk production declined

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released production data for poultry and dairy products for April 2025. According to the data, while chicken meat production showed an increase, egg and drinking milk production exhibited a downward trend.

According to the data announced by TÜİK, chicken meat production, which was 231 thousand 595 tons in March, increased by 2.6 percent in April to reach 237 thousand 567 tons. On an annual basis, production recorded an increase of 23.5 percent. A remarkable rise was also observed in the number of chickens slaughtered during the same period. In April 2025, the slaughter rate increased by 20.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

Looking at the January-April period, chicken meat production increased by 14.8 percent compared to the same period last year, while the increase in the number of chickens slaughtered was 11.5 percent.

SHARP DECLINE IN EGG PRODUCTION

In April, chicken egg production decreased by 5 percent compared to the previous month, falling to 1 billion 551 million units. In March, this figure was 1 billion 632 million. The decline in production compared to April of last year was recorded at 9.1 percent. In the first four months of 2025, egg production decreased by 9.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

The amount of cow's milk collected by commercial dairy enterprises fell by 3.4 percent in April to 981 thousand 10 tons. In March, this amount was over 1 million 15 thousand tons. A similar decline was observed in drinking milk production. With a 3.8 percent decrease compared to March, production fell to 142 thousand 948 tons.

However, a general upward trend in dairy products was noted on an annual basis. Compared to April 2024, drinking milk production increased by 7.9 percent, while yogurt production increased by 5.8 percent, ayran and kefir production by 9.4 percent, and butter and clarified butter production by 24.1 percent.

In the January-April period, cow cheese production increased by 0.8 percent compared to the same period last year. During the same period, ayran and kefir production increased by 5.3 percent, yogurt production by 3 percent, drinking milk production by 2.7 percent, and butter and clarified butter production by 6.8 percent.

TÜİK data shows that there are developments in different directions based on products in animal production. While annual increases in chicken meat production and dairy products are noteworthy, the sharp decline in egg production stands out as a development that needs to be monitored carefully in the sector.
