Türk-İş announces hunger threshold has risen to 13,683 TL

Türk-İş has announced the results of its October hunger and poverty threshold research.

SURPASSED THE MINIMUM WAGE

Accordingly, the hunger threshold for a family of 4 rose to 44,573 liras in October. The hunger threshold, at 13,684 liras, exceeded the net minimum wage by 2,282 liras. The 'cost of living' for a single worker in October was announced as 17,803 liras.

Türk-İş, which also announced monthly food inflation, stated that the minimum expenditure amount required for 'food' for a family of four living in Ankara increased by 2.62 percent compared to the previous month. The 10-month change rate was determined to be 68.30 percent. Furthermore, the change rate for the last 12 months was 84.29 percent.

FOOD PRICES CALCULATED

In the research results published by Türk-İş, while milk and cheese prices maintained their levels from last month, yogurt prices increased by 11 percent in October.

According to calculations made by Türk-İş, in the group containing meat, chicken, fish, eggs, dried legumes, and oilseed products, it was stated that there was not much increase in meat prices during May, June, July, and August due to good rainfall and falling straw prices, but meat prices began to rise in September and October. Thanks to the Meat and Milk Board (ESK) providing imported carcass meat at a low price to some of the markets operating within the Ankara Food and Necessities Retailers Association as of the end of April, ground beef began to be sold for 190 liras and cubed meat for 210 liras. It was stated that as of October, these products were sold for 289 liras for ground beef and 355 liras for cubed beef, respectively.

While it was also stated that the price of 200 grams of bread in Ankara is sold for 7 liras, it was announced that, just like last month, the monthly bread expense alone for a family of 4 is 735 liras. In this group, the highest percentage increase was seen in pasta prices. Within October, pasta prices increased by 12 percent, while rice, bulgur, flour, and semolina prices increased at a limited level compared to the previous month.

SUNFLOWER OIL SHOWED A 4 PERCENT INCREASE

The changes in oil prices were also included in the Türk-İş data. Accordingly, there was a limited increase in oil prices compared to the previous month. Olive oil and butter prices increased by 5 percent in October. A 4 percent increase was observed in sunflower oil. While olive oil prices in Ankara averaged 289 liras, sunflower oil prices appeared on the shelves at an average of 50 liras.
