Turkey's coffee exports exceeded 154 million dollars in 5 years

October 1st International Coffee Day has been officially celebrated since 2015. The importance of sustainable coffee production is also highlighted to raise awareness about the economic value and social impact of coffee.

Although Turkey does not grow coffee beans, it has become a significant player in coffee processing and exports. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, exports of coffee and coffee products amounted to 154 million 690 thousand 881 dollars between 2020 and August 2024.

EXPORT GROWTH

Coffee exports have shown a continuous increase over the years. Exports, which were 20.2 million dollars in 2020, rose to 23.8 million dollars in 2021, 36.5 million dollars in 2022, and 39.7 million dollars in 2023. In the January-August period of 2024, exports reached the level of 34.5 million dollars.

GLOBAL DEMAND

Among the countries with the highest demand for Turkish coffee are the United States, the Netherlands, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Belarus, and Saudi Arabia. During this period, Turkish coffee was preferred in a total of 146 countries. Belarus, the TRNC, Saudi Arabia, and Azerbaijan stood out among the most preferred countries in the first eight months of this year.

IMPORT DATA

Turkey's coffee imports also remain at quite high levels. They reached 1 billion 504 million 122 thousand 96 dollars in the 2020-August 2024 period. Coffee imports were recorded as 187.6 million dollars in 2020, 221.1 million dollars in 2021, 374 million dollars in 2022, and 437 million dollars in 2023. In the first eight months of 2024, imports were 284.4 million dollars.

Brazil, the Netherlands, and Germany stand out as the countries from which Turkey purchases the most coffee.
