Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. Rafet Bozdoğan and his accompanying delegation arrived in the Türkoğlu district to inspect the factory currently under construction and were welcomed by Mayor Osman Okumuş. During their meeting at his office, Bozdoğan presented Okumuş with a model of the ANKA unmanned aerial vehicle in recognition of his contributions to the facility.
Later, accompanied by District Governor Mustafa Nevzat Mercan, Bozdoğan and his delegation visited the facility being set up by TUSAŞ in the district and received information from officials regarding the process.
In his statement to reporters there, Bozdoğan said that they came to the city following the February 6 earthquakes and took action to establish the facility in question.
Explaining that they rented the hangar where the facility will be established through the efforts of the Municipality, the District Governorship, the Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KMTSO), and the Commodity Exchange, Bozdoğan stated the following:
"Our team has been working here for about 3 months to establish the aerospace structures manufacturing infrastructure. We have reached the end, more or less. God willing, we will complete the construction activities of the facility by early December and will first bring and install two devices from TUSAŞ. The orders for the devices and machines we will deploy here have also been placed and are on their way. If all goes well, we will have them deployed gradually. This facility is not enough to meet our needs; it needs to be expanded further."
Stating that the facility established in Türkoğlu is permanent and will continue its operations in coordination with the facility planned to be built near the airport, Bozdoğan expressed his belief that the facilities could be expanded further with the support of local industrialists.
Prof. Dr. Bozdoğan pointed out that the facility will create a very important infrastructure for employment, saying, "In the first stage, we will have about 50 employees here. Among them, there will be 5 engineers, with the majority being technicians and support staff. However, if our facility in Kahramanmaraş becomes fully operational, we think the number will rise to 500. In addition to employment, we are bringing an advanced technology production infrastructure. If Kahramanmaraş utilizes the industrial cooperation here, we can turn this place into an important aviation center in Turkey through joint effort. Our country and TUSAŞ need this."
Mayor Okumuş also said that they have established dozens of factories in the district so far, but they have never been this excited.
